In this article, drawing upon its own extensive experience, Evercross Bridge provides an in-depth analysis of the suitability of weathering steel for bridge construction in Africa. Through a scientific examination of Africa’s distinct climatic zones—specifically the arid interior and high-humidity coastal regions—the study identifies the optimal scenarios for its application and compares it against alternative materials, such as galvanized carbon steel and stainless steel. The article offers professional guidance to engineering decision-makers—ranging from material selection to surface pre-treatment—with the aim of helping to reduce long-term maintenance costs for African infrastructure while ensuring the enduring structural integrity and economic return of steel structures.
